A Love Affair …

Nik and Cindy Minhas, Spicy Affair Indian Cuisine owners in Swedesboro, NJ, had a mission when they arrived here from Vancouver, Canada.

They came from the hustle and bustle of a major city, but when they set foot in the heart of South Jersey, surrounded by farmlands teeming with the freshest produce, they knew they had found something special. This small, tight-knit town felt like the perfect place to raise their two sons, bask in the warmth of a community that valued family, hard work, and the American spirit. It was a place where neighbors waved, children played in open fields, and family meals were the glue that bound people together.

Yet, despite the charm of this all-American town, they noticed something missing—diversity in food. They longed for the vibrant, mouthwatering flavors that spoke of different cultures, the kind of food that brought people together in celebration of heritage, passion, and shared stories. They dreamt of introducing their neighbors to the kind of meals that could bridge cultures, a way to honor both where they had come from and where they now called home.

Cindy, born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, carried with her the rich culinary traditions passed down from her Indian heritage. Her mother had taught her the magic of spices—the way they could elevate a dish without overpowering it. Though she had spent years as an Early Childhood Educator, Cindy’s heart belonged to two things: food and fashion. She always envisioned a way to combine the two, to create something that celebrated life’s most beautiful pleasures.

Nik, raised in the vibrant, bustling city of New Delhi, had spent his career navigating the world of finance, driving success at Fortune 500 companies. But deep down, his soul was that of an entrepreneur, and he had an undeniable love for food—especially the rich, flavorful street food of India. He wanted to introduce his new hometown to the bold, delicious flavors that he had grown up with, the kind that brought people together in markets, streets, and homes across his homeland.

Together, they saw the potential to make their mark not just as residents, but as ambassadors of culture, flavor, and family. They wanted to honor the American dream—building something new and beautiful, rooted in the belief that food, much like family, has the power to unite us all. Their journey was about more than just bringing Indian flavors to a small town; it was about celebrating the diversity that makes America special, and sharing their passion for food with the people who had welcomed them with open arms.
